April 4, 2011 § Leave a comment

With over 800 HR professionals gathered together at the Los Angeles Convention Center on March 30th, Time Masters enjoyed informing the public about the importance of time & attendance systems. With the new line-up of biometric systems at prices lower then your average punch clocks; the HR professionals were amazed. The line-up included Time Masters Biometric Fingerprint terminals, Geometry Handpunch 1000 and 4000E with access control, Time Masters Facial recognition system and last put not least our proximity card/badge reader. The questions were endless and smiles were the outcome. Most of the HR professional told Time Maters that there payroll department were paying monthly fees for there time clocks! Time Masters assured them, that we have NO monthly fees, NO employee fees, the price you see is the price you pay. Eliminating time cards and the need for ribbons were also a plus factor for the HR professionals, because we all known how expensive these time cards get. Overall Time Masters wants to Thank the HR Star Conference for a great show. We are looking forward to see them at the San Francisco Conference coming up in mid July.

March 21, 2011 § 1 Comment

On March 30, 2011, Time Masters will be attending the HR Star Conference in Los Angeles, CA, to demonstrate the Time Masters’ AMG Time and Attendance Software and hardware options. Each year, the HR Star Conference draws over 800 attendees from small, medium and large businesses in the southern California area. “We are excited to share how our software can help businesses manage their bottom line and their workforce in a recovering economy,” says Tigran “Tony” Galstyan, Owner and President of Time Masters. “We are specifically looking forward to explaining how a time and attendance management system creates bulletproof documentation that protects you from Department of Labor investigations. Managing attendance is a simple, cost effective way of protecting your bottom line and protecting you as a business owner.”

Time Masters’ AMG Time and Attendance Software is a comprehensive, user-friendly employee time management tool. Key features of the AMG Time and Attendance Software include:

• HR Functions – The AMG Attendance System performs HR functions including tracking employee attendance, tracking employee tardiness and earliness, tracking transfers from one department or job to another, the assigning of schedules, applying rounding to In and Out punches, calculating overtime, and calculating employee time and wages.
• Payment Policies – In the AMG Time and Attendance System, you can create as many policies as you need allowing you to define holiday payment rules, define overtime payment rules and report exceptions. Three levels of overtime and overtime calculation are also supported.
• Shifts – The AMG Attendance system supports multiple shift groups, individual shifts, flexible shifts and floating shifts.
• Comprehensive Reporting System – Approximately 30 reports are included in the AMG Time and Attendance System and the generation of each report is designed to be simple and quick. Reports can be saved as different file formats (.doc, .xls, .pdf, etc.), printed or automatically sent to any email recipient.
• Payroll Export – Time Masters’ AMG Time and Attendance System exports directly to third party payroll systems and can also be sent to any email recipient. The following payroll exports are currently supported by Time Masters: ADP for Windows, QuickBooks Pro, Paychex Preview and Peachtree 2003.
• Bell Ringing – This module creates bell schedules that can activate devices to ring a bell. The bell schedule can be defined by days of the week, time of day and duration of the ring.
• Correcting Wrong Transactions – Time Masters Time and Attendance Software tracks all transactions caused by incorrect badge numbers, incorrect department codes and incorrect job codes. These mistakes can later be corrected by assigning the correct codes.
• Device Polling – This module allows for the polling of information from data collection terminals while also synchronizing any changes in the computer’s time and date with those terminals.
• Badge Transfer – Managers can transfer employee information from one data collection terminal to another without having to perform double work. Once a badge has been created within any terminal, it can easily be transferred to any other terminals in the network.
• Benefit Accruals – This feature allows an employee to be assigned specific benefit time (i.e. vacation or sick time) and the attendance software automatically calculates the balance of this benefit time.
• PC Clock – The PC clock allows employees to log their attendance at their PC without the use of a data collection terminal.
• Status Board – This feature of Time Masters’ Time and Attendance Software gives supervisors the ability to see what employees are doing or what they have done within a 99 hour time frame. It is defined by 5 statuses: working, absent, outside, lunch and break.

Thanksgiving – A Few Facts Before the Feast

November 24, 2010 § Leave a comment

So before we all sit down for a well deserved Thanksgiving meal, I thought this blog would take a walk on the lighter side of life to remind us of the history of why we’re all not going to work tomorrow (and why we’re scheduling holiday and vacation pay in human resources).

Thanksgiving was first celebrated by the Plymouth Pilgrims who arrived in North America in December 1620. By the fall of 1621 only half of the pilgrims that had sailed on the Mayflower survived. Thankful to be alive, the survivors decided to give a Thanksgiving feast (which lasted three days).

The drink of choice at Thanksgiving was beer.

Despite the fact that the turkey is the modern day centerpiece of a Thanksgiving meal for 91% of Americans, turkey was not served at the first thanksgiving meal. Instead, they feasted on various seafood, deer, corn, eggs, squash, spices, and popcorn. Native Americans did not eat cranberries (or crane berries) at that time though they did use them for dying clothes.

The Native Indians outnumbered the pilgrims nearly two to one at Thanksgiving. (If they only knew the future, would they have still helped?)

President George Washington issued the first national Thanksgiving Day Proclamation n the year 1789 and again in 1795. However it wasn’t until 1863 that President Abraham Lincoln officially set aside the last Thursday of November as the national day for Thanksgiving.

Benjamin Franklin wanted our national bird to be the turkey.

The heaviest turkey ever raised weighed in at 86 pounds.

For those of you already in the know, the information above is just a friendly refresher. For the rest of us, it might have shed a little light on our grade school perceptions of the holiday. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

“Supposed To” – Expectations and Motivation

August 30, 2010 § Leave a comment

“You’re not supposed to do that.”

 “You’re supposed to do this.”

“Supposed to”- It’s an interesting phrase and there is a lot built into it. It’s layered with expectation and with judgment and yet at the same time it denotes boundaries and responsibility. So, how do you balance the negative and the positive found in that tiny two-word phrase “supposed to?” And how do you especially find and support this delicate balance with your employees in the workplace where “supposed to” rules the roost. After all, if you don’t get the job done, the business closes. Not a good thing.

How do you (to quote Project Runway’s Tim Gunn) “make it work?”

 Finding the Balance

“Do what I tell you to do.” Now, you’ve probably heard this at home more than you’ve heard it in the workplace. You’re supposed to follow orders and you’re supposed to take direction. These are considered good qualities in an employee and in a child. But the flip side is “what is in it for me?”  The balance is one between expectation and motivation. You can dictate to someone all day long and if they’re not motivated, you and your army are not going to be able to force them to budge.  You cannot make balance happen and therefore you cannot expect it- unless, of course, they want to do it.

 Creating the Balance

The line between expectation and motivation is a thin one. When do you motivate and when do you expect? My simple rule of thumb is as follows:

Do they want to do it? – Yes. – Then expect them to do it.

If no, then  motivate them.

What is motivation? I define motivation as the intrinsic desire to do something or what I call “the want to” as opposed to “the have to.” It’s internal, not external. You could spend a lifetime learning how to motivate another individual and still not get it right. The key is learning how they tick. The key is in finding what is important to them. Do they appreciate social praise and recognition or do they desire something more private? Do they like to be challenged or coaxed? It really doesn’t get any more personal than what a person is motivated by. It is the ultimate in knowing them.

 “Supposed To”

As for expectation, it is a whole different experience. Expecting appropriately is a study within itself as well. Setting expectation is about knowing what a person is capable of, knowing that they have the tools to do it and then letting them go for it. As the Denis Waitley saying goes,  “Expect the best, plan for the worst and prepare to be surprised.” Planning for the worst is a key component. What are you going to do if it doesn’t go right? How long are you willing the let them slip up or are you going to allow them to hang themselves?

Plan B is inherent in any set of expectations, but so is allowing the surprise. The allow is everything because it gives room for someone’s potential to shine through. So, when evaluating the “supposed to” in your life, determine what needs to happen. Do you need to motivate? Do you need to expect? Do you need to allow? The outcome will create itself.
